OWI suspect charged with ID theft, forgery; held for ICE

On Monday at 2:32 a.m. police observed a suspicious vehicle in the apartment complex construction site in the 1500 block of North Seneca Street.

Police identified the driver as Victor Tomas, 21, of Storm Lake and say that he was intoxicated.         Police say that Tomas was in possession of drug paraphernalia as well.

Police located and seized documents that reflected Tomas was allegedly working under another name for PSSI of Storm Lake.        

On Monday police charged Tomas with OWI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail and held without bond on a hold by the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

After an additional investigation, Tomas was charged on Thursday with identity theft and forgery.

He remains held in the county jail.

 

Man sent to BVRMC after alleged assault


Police are asking for community assistance in solving an assault from last Wednesday night.        

On Thursday at 2:43 a.m. police were sent to the emergency room at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center after a report of an assault victim.

Police met with the victim, Joel Rodriguez, 23, of Storm Lake.

Rodriguez was suffering from injuries to his head as a result of a physical assault.

Police initiated an investigation but Rodriguez was uncooperative.

During the investigation police gathered information that Rodriguez was assaulted outside of 703B West Eighth St. but unknown people at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Police located several potential witnesses throughout the early morning hours Friday but were unable to gather any information as to the identity of the suspects.

Most of the people interviewed by police declined to cooperate.

During the investigation police located evidence with blood on it at the West Eighth Street scene.

In addition a vehicle related to the assault was located with blood on it by Buena Vista County Deputies in Alta early Thursday morning.

The vehicle was impounded by law enforcement.

At 5:40 a.m. Friday morning police were called back to BVRMC because Rodriguez was reportedly becoming disruptive, abusive and combative towards ER staff.

Rodriguez was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. He was booked on $300 bond.
