Newell man jailed after reportedly stealing hogs
Monty J. Grote, 43, of Newell was arrested on two counts of first-degree theft and one count of second-degree theft on Oct. 23.
Grote was contracted to raise feeders pigs for a Minnesota Company. A complaint was received on Oct. 15 by the sheriff’s office of several head of hogs missing and Grote claiming they had died.
After an investigation, it was determined that Grote had sold several head of hogs from May through October claiming they were his. The total value of the livestock was over $25,000.
Grote was arrested and booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on the charges and held on a $10,000 bond.
