SL wastes scoring chances in loss to No. 5 Spirit Lake

Many people wanted to look at a failed fourth-and-1 play in the second quarter as the turning point in the game.

But Craig Lyon  believes the turning point of last Friday’s 42-0 loss to No. 5-ranked Spirit Lake happened way before then.

Storm Lake decided to go for the first down on fourth-and-1 from its own 34-yard line trailing 7-0 in the second quarter.

The Tornadoes were stuffed and didn’t make it. Spirit Lake took over and went on to score to extend the lead to 14-0.
