Hit-and-run leads to arrest


On Sunday at 3:12 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to 501 East Fifth St. because of a hit-and-run accident.

After arriving on the scene police met with Toun Baydin, 42, of Storm Lake. Baydin allegedly reported to police that an unknown vehicle had struck his vehicle while it was parked and then fled from the scene.

Police observed bark and pieces of a tree hanging from Baydin’s vehicle, consistent with the vehicle striking a tree and not being struck by a vehicle.

After an investigation police arrested Baydin and charged him with public intoxication and filing a false report to police.

He was booked into the county jail on a $600 bond.

On Sunday at 8:24 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to the 500 block of Russell Street because of a fight in progress involving several people and a person being forced into a pickup truck.

After arriving police encountered several subjects and following an investigation, police allege that two brothers were engaged in a fight following an argument at a different location.

Police arrested Ray Martinez, 18, and Jose Martinez-Ferman, 26, both of Storm Lake.

Both men were charged with disorderly conduct and booked on a $300 bond each.

 

Man threatens family


On Monday at 2:19 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to 505D West Eighth St. because of a person threatening the residents at that location.

After arriving police met with the reporting party who said Hugo Florentino Aguilar, 32, of Storm Lake, had been at the residence consuming alcohol.

Aguilar started threatening to kill the family at the residence and fled as police were called.

Police located Aguilar at 426C West Eighth St. and arrested him without incident.

Police charged Aguilar with harassment and public intoxication.

He was booked into the county jail on a $2,300 cash bond.

 

Man steals from Walmart


On Friday at 5 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to Walmart on North Lake Avenue because of a shoplifter.

After police arrived they met with store staff who detained a patron who allegedly had stolen $23 in merchandise.

Police identified the person as Arturo Reyes, 57, of Storm Lake. After an investigation police charged Reyes with theft.

He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.

        

Woman charged with theft


On Saturday at 1:21 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to Dollar General Store on North Lake Avenue because of a theft.

Store staff said an adult female stole approximately $37 worth of merchandise from the store. Store employees recovered the store merchandise in the parking lot from the suspect but the suspect fled in a blue Pontiac.

At 2 p.m. police located the suspect in the Walmart parking lot and made contact with the owner, Marianne Graves, 67, of Fonda.

Graves was arrested and charged with theft.

Graves was processed and released pending a court date.

 

Two jailed after being thrown out of night club


On Sunday at 1:53 a.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer while on patrol observed a security staff member at Malarky’s Night Club pushing two patrons out of the night club.

Police intervened and were told the two were being removed because they were attempting to start a fight inside of the night club.

Police contacted and arrested Salvador Alvarez, 23, of South Sioux City, Neb. Alvarez was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $600 bond.

Police also took Francisco Rodriguez-Gutierrez, 24, of South Sioux City, Neb. Gutierrez was charged with disorderly conduct, interference with official acts and public intoxication.

He was booked into the county jail on a $900 bond.

 

Man jailed for harassment


On Thursday at 6:30 p.m. police were sent to McDonalds inside Walmart because of a complaint about harassment.

Police met with the reporting party, an employee at McDonalds, who said Derrick Bolden, 21, of Cherokee, came into the establishment and argued with him over a previous incident.

Bolden reportedly threatened to jump over the service counter towards the man. Bolden left and spit on the beverage machine while making a motion with his finger towards the man as if to shoot him.

Police arrested Bolden at La Juanita’s at 7 p.m and charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. He was booked on a $600 bond.
