Husband cited with beating, biting his wife

On Wednesday just after 3 a.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to 531 Russell St. #4 because of an assault in progress.

After police arrived they met with an adult female who said her husband, Fabian Garcia, 23, of Storm Lake, returned home intoxicated and engaged in a verbal argument with the reporting party. Garcia then physically assaulted the female by hitting her and biting her on her arm and back.

Police arrested Garcia in the apartment without further incident.

Garcia was charged with domestic assault causing injury and was booked and held without bond.

The victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical attention.

There were several children in the home during the time, none of whom were injured.

A report has been forwarded to the Iowa Department of Human Services.


Dropped joint leads to arrest

On Monday at 2:58 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to One Stop Shop on North Lake Avenue because of suspicious activity reported.

The reporting party told police that an adult female had dropped what she believed to be a marijuana cigarette on the floor of the store. When the female left the store, the reporting party retrieved the marijuana and called the police.

After police looked at security footage, they identified the female as Karen Graham, 51, of Storm Lake.

A short time later police stopped a vehicle driven by Graham in the 800 block of Erie Street. Police say during that stop they located and seized an open container of alcohol inside Graham’s vehicle.

After an investigation police arrested Graham and charged her with possession of a controlled substance and open container. She was booked on $1,000 bond.


Irate customer charged with disorderly conduct

On Tuesday at 6:52 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to the Storm Lake Walmart store because of an angry customer.

Police arrived at the store and met with store staff who said Jason Merritt, 39, of Litchfield, Ill., had become upset with a store employee and began screaming and berating the staff. The store employee fled from Merritt and then Merritt left the store.

Police located Merritt at Budget Inn at 1504 N. Lake Ave. and arrested him.

Merritt was charged with disorderly conduct and was booked on $300 bond.


Man arrested for harassing phone calls

On Wednesday at 9:22 p.m. the Storm Lake Police Department was sent to 531 Russell St. #4 on a report of harassment.

After arriving on the scene police met with the reporting party who advised that she had allegedly received a series of phone calls throughout the day that were harassing.

The caller was identified as James Lewis, 61, of Storm Lake.

Shortly after the call police located Lewis at 508 Barton St. and arrested him. Lewis was charged with harassment and was booked on $300 bond.
