Woman arrested in connection with July drug investigation
The Storm Lake Police Department made an arrest in connection with a drug investigation conducted in July earlier this year.
On July 30, police arrested Derrick Roberts, 45, of Storm Lake, on two counts on possession with intent to deliver marijuana at apartment #104 on 1800 East Milwaukee Ave.
While at the apartment on East Milwaukee, police determined the apartment was leased to Mai Saengkio, 37, of Storm Lake.
After an investigation police learned Saengkio was receiving housing assistance from the Northwest Iowa Regional Housing Authority.
Police say Saengkio failed to report Roberts living with her and his respective income and in doing so, fraudulently obtained $5,800 in housing assistance by filing false information and failing to report accurate income information.
Police arrested Saengkio on Aug. 16 and charged her with fraudulent practices. She was booked on a $5,000 bond.
Wanted woman jailed
On Saturday afternoon at 4:37 p.m. a Storm Lake Police Officer observed a wanted person at 802 W. Sixth St.
Everlena Johnson-Smith, 44, of Storm Lake, was arrested after being wanted by the Storm Lake Police Department on the charge of conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance (marijuana).
Smith was booked into the county jail on a $5,000 bond.
Man reportedly provides police with false information
On Friday at 1:42 p.m. Storm Lake Police were sent to Paradise Park Apartments on West Ninth Street because of a person trespassing.
Police arrived and made contact with Domonick Tribble, 26, of Laurens, who provided police with misleading and false information.
Police arrested Tribble and charged him with interference with official acts. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.
A second person who allegedly was trespassing at the complex had departed prior to the arrival of police. He is currently being sought.
Early man swipes phone
On Tuesday at 9:30 p.m. Storm Lake Police were sent to 1008 N. Lake Ave. following a report of a theft.
Police were told that Justin Jepsen, 31, of Early, had taken a cell phone and he failed to return it to the reporting party.
On Friday police arrested Jepsen and charged him with theft. He was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a $300 bond.
Assault at hotel
On Saturday at 7:40 p.m. police were sent to King’s Pointe at 1520 East Milwaukee Ave. because of an apparent assault.
Officers were advised that a male had been assaulted by a female in a guest room and the female was attempting to leave.
After police arrived they located Cody Hanson, 29, and Heather Christensen, 34, both of Atlantic, Iowa.
After an investigation police determined that the two had gotten into an argument in a guest room when Christensen and her children attempted to leave the room. Hanson allegedly assaulted Christensen and then blocked the door to keep her from leaving.
Christensen reportedly struck Hanson in the face with a cell phone, injuring Hanson, and then called 9-1-1.
During an investigation and a search of Christensen’s vehicle police located and seized hypodermic syringes and other drug paraphernalia related to the use of methamphetamines.
Police arrested and charged Hanson with false imprisonment and domestic assault.
He was transported to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center and released to BV County Jail and held without bond.
Christensen with arrested and charged with domestic assault causing bodily injury, child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.
She was booked and held without bond.
The two children were taken into protective custody and released to a grandparent.
Minors busted during bonfire
A Storm Lake Police Officer observed a fire in the back of 512 Barton St. Saturday night just after 10 p.m.
Police determined the fire was recreational but encountered several people drinking alcohol under the legal age. Police arrested Jordan Nielsen, 18, of Storm Lake, and a 17-year-old minor from Storm Lake.
Nielsen was charged with supplying alcohol to a minor and possession of alcohol. He was booked into the county jail on a $600 bond.
The minor was charged with possession of alcohol.
Nebraska man arrested at Storm Lake night club
Police were conducting a bar check at Malary’s Night Club on Sunday at 12:58 a.m. when they saw a person carrying an alcoholic drink in the parking lot.
Kash Wolff, 20, of Norfolk, Neb., was arrested and charged with possession of alcohol, public intoxication and interference with official acts.
He was booked into Buena Vista County Jail on a $900 bond.
Police find drug paraphernalia in SL man’s car
On Saturday police stopped a vehicle in the 200 block of Flindt Drive for a traffic violation.
After contacting the driver police say that the front passenger, Devin Steele, 30, of Storm Lake, was not wearing a seatbelt.
Police later learned Steele was wanted out of Sac County on warrant charging him with contempt of court and failure to pay child support.
After arresting Steele, police learned he was in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Steele was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail and booked on the Sac County warrant and further charged by Storm Lake Police with possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was held on a $1,300 bond.
