At 6:37 a.m. Sunday a Storm Lake Police Officer saw a man staggering in the 700 block of Otsego Street.

When the officer attempted to make contact with the man, he fled. Police chased the man for nearly three blocks to the 400 block of West Seventh Street where officers caught up to him. He allegedly fought with officers.

Police shot the man with a Taser and then took him to the ground.

Police identified the person as Pedro Delapaz, 27, of Storm Lake. As police officers were dealing with Delapaz, he reportedly spit in the face of one of the officers.

Delapaz was transported to Buena Vista County Regional Medical Center for treatment for exposure to a Taser. Delapaz also had a laceration to his arm which occurred before the foot chase.

Delapaz said he was stabbed by another person at a party at 517 Otsego St. and that he had been threatened with a gun.

Police responded to the Otsego Street address and took two men into custody in connection with the fight at the residence.

He was not stabbed.

A second person involved in the fight threatened to get a gun but police are unsure if a gun was ever displayed.

At 4 p.m. police investigators and officers executed a search warrant on the Otsego Street residence and seized a .243 caliber rifle with ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

Police charged Delapaz with assault on a peace officer, public intoxication, criminal trespass, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

He was booked on a $600 bond.
