Family scolds Levin as he gets life sentence

Kirk Levin, who was convicted of first-degree murder and third-degree kidnapping in June, was sentenced to life in prison on Friday in Sac City.

Levin, 21, was convicted on June 6 of killing his mother Marilyn Schmitt, 45, of Early.

Levin was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for kidnapping Jessica Vega, 21, of Storm Lake, the same day Schmitt was killed. Schmitt’s body was found during the investigation of Vega’s kidnapping.

Vega read a brief statement to Levin at the sentencing.
