State aid expanded for English Language Learners

Extra funds to follow student for five years

Iowa schools are now eligible for more money to educate children who are learning to speak English.

A provision included in a bill signed last week by Gov. Terry Branstad extends to five years the time period that districts can receive additional funding to serve English Language Learners. Previously, money followed an ELL student for only four years.
