Mistakes hurt No. 3 Newell-Fonda in setback to No. 1 North Union

Mackenzie Mandernach went 2-for-2 at the plate, but it wasn’t enough as Newell-Fonda was blanked by North Union 10-0 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night at Swea City.

North Union is ranked No. 1 in Class 2A and Newell-Fonda is No. 3 in Class 1A.          

After a scoreless first inning, North Union was able to draw first blood with a run in the second. It added four more runs in the fourth inning and five in the fifth.          

Brianna Wells and Renee Maneman also collected singles for the Mustangs, who are now 25-4 overall.
