Slow start hurts Storm Lake in loss to Cherokee

Storm Lake couldn’t overcome a slow start as Cherokee pulled away early to hand the Tornadoes a 14-1 setback in a Lakes Conference game on Wednesday night at Tornado Field.

Storm Lake was limited to six hits in the game. Maggie Freking and Naomi Castillo had two apiece.

“It was a very frustrating night,” Storm Lake coach Mel Fisher said. “We came out flat and Cherokee didn’t. They capitalized on our errors. Offensively, we hit the ball better with six hits in the four innings.”
